We’re getting goats, no kidding!

I will be goat-sitting Maria’s five goats for the next six months or so while they are getting settled into their new property.  In exchange, I will get to keep all of the babies (could end up being six or more) and two of the younger goats.  I am hoping for some females so that we can have goat milk in the future.  Feta anyone?  Stay tuned for pictures of our new residents.

WooHoo, a good week for thesis work

My Horoscope via Rob Brezsny
“Flora, a Komodo dragon in a British zoo, recently became pregnant and hatched five babies without ever having had contact with a male. This is the first recorded virgin birth among her species. She’s your power animal for the coming weeks, Sagittarius. Whether you’re female or male, you too now have the power to spawn a beautiful brainchild without being intellectually or emotionally fertilized by anyone. That of course doesn’t mean you should avoid the kind of intimate interactions that would fructify you. On the contrary, I urge you to seek those out in abundance. But my point is that you don’t need them in order to be a fount of creativity.”

I milked a goat

Yesterday, I went to visit my friend Maria who was busy packing and getting ready to move. (I will miss you and your fabulous homemade pickles, Maria!) When I arrived, Maria was just beginning her goat chores so I tagged along. She showed me how to milk her goat, Eureka.  It was a slow start but eventually I got the hang of it.  Nowhere as skilled as Maria, who somehow balances baby Burton on her lap and keeps an eye on her two young daughters at the same time she is filling a bucket with milk.
