Chico gets the boot

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Here is a picture of Summer’s dog, Chico, not really enjoying posing in my boot.  With at least three more weeks in the boot I cannot say I am enjoying it much either. Chris reminds me that a boot is better than a cast, and I agree and am thankful. I get the stitches out next week, woohoo!

Healing at home

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

I had surgery on my heel on Wednesday and have been at home relaxing and healing.  I am not in any pain, and am feeling pretty drugged.  Chris has been wonderful (as always) and has been taking excellent care of me, while at the same time taking care of the horses, dogs, birds, cat, plus watering, mucking and all the other farm chores. I have crutches to use when I need to get around, and trying to navigate my balance while on pain medications has been a challenge! So pretty much I just stay in one place and watch reruns of Law and Order and Mad About You.  Life is good. :-)

Visitors!

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

Chris’ daughter, Summer, and her boyfriend, David, are here visiting for a few days. They received the grand tour of the property, including site of our future home, and met all of the four-legged family members. They drove around on the quad and even manged to spot a few javelina.

Mystery solved! We have bats in the belfry, oops, I mean hummingbird feeder

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

I could not understand how the hummingbird feeder could be empty every single morning when I got up.  I began checking the feeder at night before I went to bed, and then first thing in the morning.  Something was definitely emptying the feeder during the night. At first I thought it might be the wind blowing the feeder around, but there was never any nectar on the ground.  Then Chris and I got curious and decided to investigate further and here are the pictures of the nectar lovers:

Bill came over last week with his bulldozer and began removing mesquite and leveling the land where the house will go. View looking toward the east:
