Restitution

Friday, August 25th, 2006

We received our first restitution check from the jailed man who was caught driving our stolen truck. The amount is small, but somehow it is gratifying knowing that he is working during the week to make amends.  Unfortunately, he was not the one who actually stole the truck and was probably only trying to make money to feed his family. I can only hope that Douglas stepped up their law enforcement along the border.

Just for Stephanie :-)

We have been getting an inordinate amount of rain for the past few weeks, resulting in local flooding in New Mexico’s Boot Heel. The pictures don’t quite do it justice, so you will need to use your imagination to hear the sound of the boulders crashing down through the washes, as the rainwater pours down the mountains and into the valley basin.  Thank goodness for 4-wheel drive, as we would not have been able to come and go without it. The evenings and early mornings after the rain were filled with the sound of toads and frogs who come seemingly from nowhere to find their mates in the newly formed bog.
