Pony vs. Tarantula

A tarantula has been hanging out in the hay shed. I see him in the evenings when I go to get hay to throw to the horses. He and I have an agreement; I don’t bother him and he doesn’t bother me. This works well for both of us. Today he was crossing the pony’s corral to go back to the hay shed. Merlin saw him and came over to investigate. Merlin took his pony nose and bumped the tarantula (henceforth known as “Legs”) about a foot back. Legs took great umbrage at this and raised up on his back legs, waving his front legs in protest at Merlin. Merlin decided the whole thing was loads of fun and did it again, making Legs stand up even further in rage. Lucky for Legs, Merlin got bored and went back to his hay allowing Legs safe passage back to the hay shed. Just another day in Rodeo………..

Oh, we had our first monsoon with rain yesterday evening. It smelled so terrific. Something about the rain on the brush and mesquite just smells so wonderful. Up there with the smell of the ocean, and puppy, and cotton candy. Yum.

Rain dripping off the roof.

It’s a Boy! or Girl!

A cactus near our house is home to two young almost feathered babies. Cactus wrens? We are not sure. Any birders out there?

Where's my mom?

Rodeo, NM came alive with patriotism in many forms, including a family oriented fun-filled parade, BBQ dinner at the community center, fireworks and a dance til the wee hours of the morning.

Uncle Sam towers over the crowd.
